Chain Maille Copper Bracelet – Box Chain
Date: Saturday, June 6th, from 1-5 PM
Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.
Description: Each student will receive instructions for a chain maille pattern, learn how to make jump rings, and complete a project.
Fees: $20, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG. Materials for each bracelet can be purchased CASH ONLY the day of class. Cost for bracelet kit is $40, and additional kits will be available for purchase as well.
Requirements: Two pairs of non-serrated jewelry pliers, or one pair and a jump ring closing ring if you prefer. We’ll have some extra pliers on hand. Prior experience with chainmaille weaving and an optivisor is highly recommended.

The PLG is accepting consignments and donations of lapidary and related items for our auction. Both consignments and donations may be dropped off at the workshop on Thursday, May 13th during open shop (6-9 PM) and on Sunday, May 16th, from noon – 1 PM. The preview will be at approximately 1:30, and the auction will start at approximately 2:00. Hope to see you there!

Advanced Silversmithing: Bails and Bezels
Dates:
Friday, May 21st, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday, May 22nd, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm AND
Friday, May 28th , 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturday May29th 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Bring lunch or buy nearby.
Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.
Description: Some silversmithing experience is helpful but not required. These classes are intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. Students will make 4 to 5 advanced bezels: step oval and rectangular, gallery bezel, collar. Students will need to supply 4 to 5 small to medium-sized cabochons to set, one of which is a hard agate. Cabochons may also be purchased at class—please contact the instructor with any questions. Five to six different bails will be covered.
Fees: Class fee: $75, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.
Materials fee: Fine silver kit is $50, copper kit is $25. Please contact the instructor for details if you would like to bring your own materials.

Our monthly general meeting will be held at the workshop on Monday, April 19th, starting at 7 PM. After the business portion of the meeting, VP and instructor Eric will talk about how to use Etsy to sell your jewelry. members and non-members are welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!
This Thursday, April 15th, faceting instructor Mike will be at open shop to answer your questions about faceting. He will also give a brief demonstration, and talk about how to select faceting rough. Come find out whether you’d be interested in taking Mike’s class coming up in June!
Basic Lost Wax Casting Class
Date: May 22 & 23, 2010, 1-4 pm.
Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.
Description: This class is structured to get students into the casting field. It introduces students to the equipment and tools used in the process of lost wax casting by injecting wax molds, investing the wax item, burning out the mold, casting the mold, and polishing the finished sterling silver item. Students will use sterling silver scrap, or may provide their own metal with the instructor’s permission.
Fees: $100, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG. Materials for casting can be purchased CASH ONLY the day of class. Please contact the instructor to inquire about materials costs.
Requirements: Students will need to bring an Optivisor if they have one.

Basic Silversmithing Class
Date: April 24 and May 1, 2010 1-4 pm.
Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.
Description: This class is structured to get students into the silversmithing field. It introduces students to the equipment and tools used in the process of silversmithing by cutting, shaping, sawing, setting, soldering, and polishing the finished sterling silver item.
Fees: $100, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG. Materials for smithing can be purchased CASH ONLY the day of class. Please contact the instructor to inquire about materials costs.
Requirements: Students will need to bring an Optivisor if they have one.

Chain Maille Bracelet: Full Persian 6-in-1

Date: Saturday, May 8th, from 1-5 PM
Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.
Description: Each student will receive intermediate-level instruction on the Full Persian weave and complete a bracelet.
Fees:
Class Fee: $20, payable in cash or by check made out to the Patuxent Lapidary Guild
Materials Fee: $20 for a copper kit, $75 for an Argentium Sterling Silver kit; payable in cash or by check made out to Upcyclist (that’s me).
Each ring kit is sawed by hand. Other materials (brass, nickel alloy, fine silver, 14/20 gold fill, even gold) and additional kits are available on request. All students will receive a copper kit unless otherwise requested–please let the instructor know at least two weeks in advance if you’d like something other than copper.
Requirements:
Two pairs of non-serrated jewelry pliers, or one pair and a jump ring closing ring if you prefer. We’ll have some extra pliers on hand.
An optivisor is highly recommended–we’ll be working with 1/4″ x 16 gauge rings
Prior experience with chainmaille weaving is recommended as well
