Basic PMC (Precious Metal Clay)

Date: Saturday, August 28th, 9AM to 5PM with a lunch break

Description: Learn from a certified instructor how to create unique jewelry with Precious Metal Clay by molding and shaping this versatile material.

Description: No previous faceting experience is required. Students will learn how to select material for faceting, learn various properties of different stones, learn to operate a Graves faceting machine, and to cut and polish a round brilliant gemstone.

Fees: Class fee: $60 members, $80 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee:  $10, payable to the instructor.

Requirements: Students should bring an Optivisor if they own one.

Description:  Students will make one pendant and earring set OR one bracelet. Students will work on jeweler’s saw skills and finishing techniques. Students may bring their personal tools if desired. Some silversmithing experience is helpful but not required. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. The images above are intended as samples of cut work only—students will create their own designs.

Fees: Class fee $60.00 members, $80 non-members, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

 Materials fee: $55.00, payable to the instructor.

Requirements: Students are encouraged to bring a notebook and an Optivisor if they own one.

Description: Learn intermediate techniques to create three unusual bracelets and a pair of earrings. Inexpensive rubber and aluminum rings are fun to work with and make eye-catching jewelry.  Each item will be made using various colors of non-latex rubber o-rings and aluminum rings, which may differ from the colors in the photograph.

Fees: $20, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG. Materials for each item can be purchased CASH ONLY the day of class. Cost for all four items is $25.

Requirements: Students are required to bring two pairs of non-serrated jewelry pliers, one of which MUST be straight chain-nose for use in stretching the rubber o-rings. The other pair can be flat-nose, bent chain-nose, or whatever you like. Pliers can be purchased at any craft store (Michael’s or A.C. Moore) or bead store (Bead Depot in Glen Burnie, Gotta Luv Beads in Severna Park) for between $5 and $7. Please contact the instructor with any questions about pliers.

Description: Use inexpensive materials to create a simple pair of earrings (not pictured) and three fun and funky bracelets! Learn how to properly open and close anodized aluminum jump rings, and use them to connect non-latex rubber o-rings. Each item will be made using black rubber o-rings and students will have a choice of two different colors of aluminum rings for each design.

Fees: $20, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG. Materials for each item can be purchased CASH ONLY the day of class. Cost for all four items is $15.

Woven Rubber Bracelets (R&A Chain Maille #3)

Description: Learn to weave colored non-latex rubber o-rings and join them with anodized aluminum jump rings to make three unique and comfortable bracelets. Each item will be made using various colors of non-latex rubber o-rings and aluminum rings, which may differ from the colors in the photograph.

Description:  Some silversmithing experience is helpful but not required. This class is intensive, please be prepared to focus and work hard. Students will make 2 advanced bezels and 2 to 3 large style bails. Students will need to supply 2 medium to large hard agate cabochons, 3/4″ to 1″ long. Students may bring personal tools if desired.  Cabochons may also be purchased at class – please contact the instructor with any questions.

Fees: Class fee: $40, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee: Fine silver kit is $35.00, copper kit is $12.00. Please contact the instructor for details if you would like to bring your own materials.

Date: Sunday, June 13^th , from 1-5 PM

Location: PLG workshop, 169 Defense Highway (lower level) Annapolis, MD.

Description: Byzantine is a beautiful pattern that looks intricate but is not difficult for even a novice chain mailler.  Students will make one or two projects in sterling silver rings, depending on their level of skill. Several colors of beads will be available for students to choose for project number two, which will include a matching pair of earrings.

Fees: Class fee: $20, payable in cash or by check made out to the PLG.

Materials fee:  Materials fees should be paid to the instructor by cash or check the day of the class. Students may also bring their own materials. Prices, for argentium silver rings and sterling components, are as follows:

Project 1:  basic Byzantine bracelet: 16g 4.5mm 124 rings, toggle clasp: $40

Project 2: Romanov bracelet and earring set: 18g 3.5mm 308 rings and 16g 5.0mm 12 rings, toggle clasp, ear wires: $55

NOTE: students with little or no chain maille experience should start with Project 1, because the pattern is easier to learn on larger rings. Those with experience can opt out of Project 1 and just do Project 2, or do both.
